Is it really possible?

Can it really be 25 years of the TKE Memorial Open? It just doesn't seem possible. Wasn't it just the other day that we tied Tom McCarty to the front porch in his red underwear? Or the midnight line-up at the fieldhouse complete with the Zedack belly flop? Are our IFC Dynasties in waterpolo, soccer, and hoops still going strong? The Red House, Wood St, The TKE house on 4th St...God I miss that place! Especially the tap system and the DJ booth. Good thing there was no such thing as CSI back in those days.

The Ski Lodge, Warhurst, Sesame St, Fickes and PK's trailer, The Arcus Circus, The White House, RCB's, mixers, date parties, sorority formals, Pinochle in the union, Hess' Lemon's, Good Old days, the paddock, building floats, coach Puhl's farm...surely all these things happened only ten years ago, not 25...It just can't be!

Of course there were bad times too. The riot (I got your purple bandana, right here), the police coming to the house to arrest Zeke, the fire, and the tragic car accident that caused us to start The Robert M. McCarty memorial open. Over the years we have lost too many fraters, way too young, in many tragic ways which led us to change the name to the TKE Memorial Open. There is a plaque in the current TKE House honoring all the Pi-Beta's that are having the pre-party in the chapter eternal. Thanks to Lee Cash for making that happen. The plaque will be on display at this years TKE Memorial Open on July 15th at Ravens Claw Golf Club. Some of the names on that plaque I barely knew, most I knew well, but I love and miss you all.

Hairlines and waistlines may change, but the bond is truly forever! I am truly honored to call each of you my brother. Soon we will gather to raise a glass and a few golf clubs, shed a few tears and have many laughs on what is my favorite day of every year. Until then, I remain...

The Latest News

TKE Pi-Beta alumni newsletter

Fraters,

As promised at this year’s TKE memorial open, I would follow up with some updates and news from our alumni. The following are the topics in this newsletter:

1. Summary of the 24th TKE memorial open

2. Early plans for the 25th TKE memorial open

3. Areas that we could use some help

4. TKE Jobs

5. The “missing man” list of people that we would like to see at the 25th open

6. Contact info, databases, etc

7. Angel Investing

8. News, events, and announcements…TKE Pi-Beta Blog

1. The 24th TKE memorial was an amazing success and had one of our best turnouts ever with over 80 golfers! When the dust settled, we had three foursomes tied at the top. One REALLY old group, one SEMI old group (mine!), and a foursome of the young bucks had to fight on…I will leave out the names to protect the innocent, but you know who you are! After the senior citizens decided that they couldn’t get out of their wheelchairs to compete in the playoff, we were down to two groups. I will spare you most of the details and cut to the end. After the young bucks missed all four attempts at their birdie, it was my team’s turn. The first three attempts went begging and the stage was set for what will be known as “The Hand of Bob (McCarty)” putt. (for those of you who don’t know golf history, when Tiger Woods chipped in at the Masters a few years back, the press dubbed that shot “the hand of god”). It was now my turn to putt and it appeared to come up just short, when I got a little help from above and the winning putt fell in the side door! The young bucks (or my bitches, as they are now known) were left to think about what might have been. Better luck next year, suckerz!!

Seriously, it was a great day and our sincerest thanks to all for coming out and for all who helped make it a day that will be remembered for a long time to come!

2. The plans for next year for the Big 25 annual are under way and the date is set for JULY 15th, 2011, so mark your calendars and please make no excuses!! We have some great ideas to make this our best ever, so help us spread the word. The details will be coming as they get finalized.

3. Several of you signed up to help with next years event and I will reach out to you individually to see what you want to do. However, if you didn’t sign up and want to help…let me know. Some of the areas that we need help are updating/merging our database; finding and contacting our “lost” fraters; recruiting players; tourney and banquet set-up; gathering sponsors; preparing tributes (Pi-Beta’s in the military/fallen fraters/golf tourney hosts ); etc. Remember, TKE is the Fraternity for life!!

4. TKE Jobs. I have had a few people express interest in networking within the Fraternity for jobs. If you are a job seeker or a job poster either send me an e-mail or reply to this blog with your particulars. So far, I have 2 seekers and 1 poster, but I know there are more out there. Let’s do what we can to help each other out!

5. The following is a partial list of names that people have mentioned that they would like to see at the 25th open extravaganza: Steve Sell, Jeff Mergel, Keith Kirchdorfer, Mark McCord, Brit Orndorf, Dave Holtzman, Brian Case, Josh Hartle, Pete Slusser, John DeMartino, Mike Davis, Chris King, Buzz Cary, Officer Kemm, Walt Haley, Vince Mirachi, Tom Moffa, Mike Miller, Craig Kishel, Mike Anthony, Jenna Jamison (I will pay the entry fee for her and the frater that gets her to come), Christy Canyon (ditto), Kevin Gleason, Kris Jackson, Brad White, Dave Guman, Doug Dieter, Paul Woltman, Joe Jackson, Sean Brennan, Load (Keith Donmoyer…nor another porn star), Bong, Juice, Yoda, Primetime, Larry Mussoline, Tim Styer, Joe Mihalko, Kevin Reese, Bill Bent, Hugh O’Neill, Frank Varano, Sean Ryan, John Wilson, Mike Jemo, Greg Puglisi, Dan Fickes, PK Thompson, Tom Thompson, Dave Hall, John Strecker, Jim Ferraro, Mike Spano, Dan Dimm, Mike Wieczorek, Tib Bunnell, Will Sharp, Dick Hollinger, Ed Sanborn, Trent Bentzel, Rob Bentzel and many more. If you have contact info on these guys, please forward them to me and I will add them to next year’s stalking campaign. Feel free to add others to this list as this list was composed in minutes over many beers at the TKE Open.

6. Our biggest problem year after year is keeping tabs on each other as we all move around. Which one of our IT specialists wants to take ownership of merging, creating, and organizing all of our contact info. I am confident that we are missing out on seeing some of our brothers that are right under our noses and just don’t get the e-mail or letter and that’s just wrong. Who can make this run more smoothly??

7. If anyone knows of anyone that does “Angel Investing”, I would like to speak to them. I started a business last year and it either needs to get an influx of some cash or I am probably going to shut it down. At least for the short term and go out and get a job. I will spare everyone the details and share them with anyone that is truly serious.

8. Stay tuned…this is my first attempt at a Blog and I am sure it will only improve. However, I will create an area to add photo’s, news, events, or just smack talk. If you want to be an author on the blog, just send me an e-mail for now.

Take care for now, and I remain,

Yours In The Bond,

Mike Morgan #199
